Page 2 of 3 The Vancouver Agreement
We, the undersigned, have come together in Vancouver on this day, to seek how we can 'stand in the gap' before God for Canada. We have agreed that our Nation is in great need of urgent and effective prayer for every aspect of Society. We are challenged personally to prepare our own hearts for revival and together to issue a joint call to the Church of Canada to seek God in fervent and united prayer according to the principles outlined below: If my people, who are called by my name . . . The responsibility for the spiritual state of the Nation rests with the Church. We agree to call upon the whole Church to be 'Canada in Prayer'.
Shall humble themselves . . . Fasting is a biblical and practical way of humbling ourselves before the living God. We agree to call upon all Christians in every city and town across Canada to set aside the first Friday of every month as a day of prayer with fasting for this Nation.
And pray . . . We agree to cooperate with existing prayer strategies and to develop new ones, to ensure that the entire Nation is covered by networks of prayer by the year 2000.
And seek my face . . . Where we have trusted ourselves and the programs of men rather than seeking God and His ways, we agree to seek God's heart and direction for our ministries. We are determined to obey the Holy Spirit promptly.
And turn from their wicked ways . . .
We agree to repent, and go on repenting as God deals with our hearts, and to recommit ourselves to serving God's Kingdom and the growth of His people. We will be diligent to confess every known sin in our own lives and to put aside every doubtful habit. Then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. We agree to seek God together until we experience the fulfillment of this promise - a spiritual awakening in the whole land that will result in a powerful proclamation of the Gospel and the continual transforming of our society.
